I. CUSTOMER ENVIRONMENT / PROJECT CONTEXT

Customer profile:

  • Qatargas Liquefied gas Company Ltd ( a consortium composed of QGPC, Total, Mobil, Mitsui and Marubeni) awarded national Petroleum Construction Company /Technip Geoproduction joint venture (NPCC/TPG J.V.) the EPC contract for the Process and Utilities platform topsides and McDermott ETPM - East Inc. (MEEI) the EPC contract for the Living Quarters platform topsides.

Customer objective and constraints:

  • The Qatargas Upstream Development is the result of Qatar's ambitions to develop export-oriented industries based on the vast reserves of its North field.

II. SOLUTION IMPLEMENTATION

Implementation methodology (main phases):

  • Design and engineering : 11,000 hours.
  • signing of the contract : June 1994.
  • supply or the equipment : started january 1995.
  • On-shore installation : started november 1995.
  • Off-shore commissioning : started march 1996.
  • gas and condensate ashore : third quarter 1996.

Duration:

From June 1994 to March 1996.

Process and Utilities (PU) platform

  • MV switchboard,
  • 2 LV neutral earthing impedances,
  • LV switchboards, MCC's and busducts,
  • on-shore pre-commissioning assistance, off-shore commissioning assistance.

 

Living Quarters (LQ) platform

  • 2 LV neutral earthing impedances,
  • LV switchboards, MCC's and busducts,
  • on-shore pre-commissioning assistance, off-shore commissioning assistance.

 

PU and LQ platform power distribution control system

  • Power distribution control system : 200 ms response time automatic load-shedding and re-start facilities, auto-reclose function (managed by local PLC), emergency sequences (local / remote management), interface with other.
  • main redundant PLC's including communication with the process control system,
  • PLC's slaves integrated in the main LV switchboards.

Process and Utilities (PU) platform

  • MV switchboard: 1 metalclad Fluair 100 switchboard (6.6 kV) with Sepam protection relays,
  • 2 LV neutral earthing impedances,
  • LV switchboards, MCC's and busducts :  5 MB200 / MB400 LV switchboards (400 V / 50k A) and 2 LV busducts (6000 A - 80 kA),
  • on-shore pre-commissioning assistance, off-shore commissioning assistance.

 

Living Quarters (LQ) platform

  • Isis 3000 power distribution control system, including color operator's workstations, including conventional functions: mimic displays, mouse-driven control facilities, analog value trends and reporting and specific functions: 200 ms response time automatic load-shedding and re-start facilities, auto-reclose function (managed by local PLC), emergency sequences (local / remote management), interface with other.
  • main redundant April 7000 PLC's including JBUS communication with the process control system,
  • April 5000 PLC's slaves integrated in the main LV switchboards
